Dana Corp's Commercial Vehicle Systems Division has debuted the new Dana Spicer D190 series of single-reduction tandem-drive axles.

With gross axle weight ratings from 52,000 pounds (D52-190 model) to 60,000 pounds (D60-190 model), the new family of axles will be targeted to vocational applications such as construction, heavy haul, logging, refuse, mining, and oil field operations. Features of these axles include:

  • Broad ratio coverage — 3.42:1 through 7.17:1.

  • Best-in-class inter-axle driveline angles.

  • Extra-wide face-width gearing.

  • Newly designed gearing and bearing system.

  • Lower operating temperatures and added spinout protection provided by a new patented, standard-equipped lubrication pump.

  • Forged, heat-treated steel differential cases.

  • Sixteen extra-large, 20-mm-diameter ring gear fasteners.

  • Integrated ring gear and wheel differential mounting system eliminates bolted joints.

  • An integral pinion cage and carrier adds stiffness and strength while eliminating a potential leak path.

Options include

  • A driver-controlled wheel differential system for both forward and rear axles to maximize traction.

  • The wheel differential lock feature may be retrofitted without replacing the entire axle assembly.

  • A carrier integrated electromagnetic retarder mount.

  • Wide-track axles to maximize stability.

  • Integral welded suspension brackets.

The Dana Spicer D190 standard axle warranty is up to five years/500,000 miles for approved vocational applications with Roadranger-approved and factory-filled, synthetic lube.
