A total of 25,204 trucks were found free of critical safety defects in a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspection conducted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, according to CVSA information. The frequency of vehicles found free of critical defects, over 50 percent of the total inspected, was up 6.3 percent from last year. Brake problems were the most frequent vehicle out-of-service violation, comprising 53.3 percent of the total vehicle out-of-service violations, followed by lights, 12.8 percent; tires and wheels, 8.1 percent; load securement, 6.8 percent; and suspension, five percent.

Inspectors examined 49,032 vehicles in the international transportation safety and security activity conducted in a 72-hour period beginning June 4. State, provincial and federal truck and bus safety inspectors checked commercial vehicles and their drivers at inspection sites along major highways. In addition, roving patrols inspected commercial vehicles traveling other highways.
