The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has approved a new cross-border trade corridor between Michigan and Canada. The Great Lakes Trade Corridor Association (GLTCA) predicts this corridor will generate $1.5 trillion in annual trade volume over the next five years.

Designated a High Priority Corridor 18 by the FHWA, the Great Lakes Trade Corridor includes Interstates 69 and 94 in Michigan along with Canadian Highway 402 in the province of Ontario.

GLTCA says the Michigan frontier is the busiest commercial cross-border trading site in North America, and these new border crossings could significantly boost local business. It claims that every two-tenths of a percent in extra trade captured by the improved border crossings could be worth between $6 billion to $8 billion to the economies of Michigan and Ontario.
