COSTHA meeting will focus on compliance

The Annual Forum Committee of the Conference on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles Inc (COSTHA) has completed plans for the 2004 annual meeting.

The Annual Forum Committee of the Conference on Safe Transportation of Hazardous Articles Inc (COSTHA) has completed plans for the 2004 annual meeting. Entitled “Adding Value Through HazMat Compliance,” the meeting will be held March 7-10 at the Caribe Royale in Orlando FL.

New for 2004 are a workshop by Association Counsel Rick Schweitzer on “Exemptions and Rulemakings — How to Save Your Company $$$$” and a roundtable on “Implementing Your Security Plan.”

Featured speakers will be Bob Richard, international standards coordinator, Research and Special Programs Administration; Jeffrey Hart, head of Dangerous Goods Branch, Department of Transport, United Kingdom; Ross McLachlan, deputy head of UK Dangerous Goods Civil Aviation Authority; Ed Mazzullo, director — Office of Hazardous Materials Standards, Department of Transportation; Manny Pfersich, chief — packaged cargo section, United States Coast Guard; and William Quade, chief — Hazardous Materials Division, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Training starts March 7 with a full-day “Train-the-Trainer” course by Jim Boehringer, DGI Training Center; and a four-hour course on “Small Quantities/Limited Quantities/Consumer Commodities” by Ken Holloway, Safety Specialists Inc. That afternoon features “Infectious Substances/Diagnostic Specimens” by Art Rutledge, president, Saf-T-Pak Inc; and “Automotive Issues” by Steven Hunt, president, ShipMate Inc.

Continuing March 8 is a full-day course on “ADR, European Road Requirements” by Leif Soderman, DGSA, Optimal Assistans, Sweden; and a half-day course on “Smart Packaging” by Dawn Anderson, ICC, The Compliance Center.
