Despite a downturn in new housing construction, concrete and asphalt prices remained nearly unchanged in June with a slight 0.1 percent gain, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Producer Price Index.
Steel prices for the same time period increased a slight 0.4 percent. However, steel prices increased 10.6 percent during the past year.
Concrete prices have changed at a slower rate than some of the other commodities over the past year, posting a 4.5 percent increase from the June 2006 price levels. Asphalt prices rose 7.7 percent from the 2006 period.
