Education/Management Conference Slated
The National Private Truck Council (NPTC) plans to hold the 2001 Education/Management Conference and Exhibition, and the event's theme will be Navigating Transportation's Changing Currents. This gathering will take place May 20-23 at the Nashville (TN) Convention Center.
NPTC 2001 offers more than 30 educational sessions over a three-day period. GATS 2001 Has New Dates, Show Hours
The Great American Trucking Show 2001 (GATS) has announced new dates and show hours for the upcoming trade show. The third annual GATS show will be held Sept 7-9, 2001, at the Dallas (TX) Convention Center. GATS has also unveiled new show hours. This year, the show will be open Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm.
In 2000, the show drew 46,596 industry professionals from around the world and filled 371,065 net square feet of exhibit space. Distribution/Computer Expo to Mark 19 Years
In 1983, the first Distribution/Computer Expo brought together 45 exhibitors and more than 1,000 logistics professionals. Eighteen years later, the Distribution/Computer Expo 2001 edition will draw more than 220 exhibitors at the Navy Pier in Chicago IL. Seminars are planned for May 22-23; the expo is set for May 23-24.

HMAC Conference to Focus on Compliance
Managing Hazmat Compliance: Fact or Fiction is the theme for the 2001 Hazardous Materials Advisory Council (HMAC) annual conference and exhibition set for Nov 7-9 at the Inter-Continental Hotel in New Orleans LA.
HMAC's 24th annual conference will feature professionals discussing what the government expects in compliance and what industry has experienced in practice what works and what doesn't along with break-out sessions and United States, Canadian, and Mexican regulatory updates.
Before the conference, HMAC will hold committee meetings November 7 and a board of directors meeting November 8. Conference participants are invited to these committee meetings: North American Regulatory and Legislative Affairs, International Regulations, Program, Education and Training, and Membership. The board meeting is open to members only.

ArvinMeritor to Appeal Decision in Lawsuit
ArvinMeritor Inc plans to appeal the recent decision against it in the patent infringement lawsuit brought by Eaton Corp over the Engine Synchro Shift transmission system.
Judge Joseph Farnan of the United States District Court for the District of Delaware had rejected ArvinMeritor's defense that Eaton's patent had been obtained improperly, ruling in favor of Eaton on patent enforceability.
But Richard McLaren, lead trial counsel for ArvinMeritor, said the court's interpretation of the patent is not correct, and the company believes it proved Eaton improperly obtained the patent on technology that actually had been developed by another company.
We are disappointed that the District Court ruled in Eaton's favor, said Vernon Baker, senior vice-president and general counsel for ArvinMeritor. We have believed from the beginning Eaton's suit was meritless, and ArvinMeritor will appeal.
