GATX affiliate ChemLogix LLC, Plymouth Meeting PA, and Manugistics Group Inc, Rockville MD, have announced that Manugistics logistics management solutions are being used to help power the ChemLogix Transportation Management Center. The center is designed to provide mid-market chemical manufacturers and distributors with Web-enabled, hosted access to the same advanced transportation technology used by major producers and distributors.

Using Manugistics logistics management solutions, the center can enable chemical companies and their trading partners to reduce costs by consolidating loads, optimizing mode selection and planning continuous moves; reduce phone and fax time by electronically tendering loads and communicating with carriers, as well as automatically reconciling and paying freight bills; view in real-time load status, carrier performance, non-conformance alerts and reports; and enhance decision-making and carrier negotiations with complete, accurate and easily accessible historical data and customized reports.

"ChemLogix continues to adopt industry-leading technology like that of Manugistics to enable us to optimize transportation assets and shipments, reduce empty miles, and provide our clients with succinct, actionable management information," said J Stephen Hamilton, president and chief executive officer of ChemLogix. "Manugistics logistics management solutions are enabling some of the best known chemical and energy companies to save tens of millions of dollars in freight costs while maintaining or improving customer service. We now offer mid-market chemical companies access to these robust solutions on an ASP basis, which can be a less-costly alternative to the larger IT investment typically required to implement these solutions within the enterprise."

Industry leaders such as BASF, BP, Cabot, DuPont, Elemica, ExxonMobil, Mitsui Chemicals, Repsol, Rhodia, Rohm and Haas, Royal Dutch Shell, Van Waters & Rogers, and Vulcan Chemicals are all utilizing, or in the process of implementing, Manugistics solutions, according to Manugistics.
