HazMat Systems Inc (HMSI) is offering a new, more versatile model of Chemical Acoustic Signature System (CASS). The new model was designed to easily obtain readings from hard-to-reach areas, such as in between drums and compartments in tanker trucks.

The new CASS unit was unveiled at the Security Summit, a chemical industry meeting sponsored by the Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA) and the American Chemistry Council. Attendees were able to see CASS identify chemicals in sealed containers and detect contraband. CASS can be used to quickly inspect all inbound trucks into chemical plants to help mitigate terrorist attacks.

The new CASS model is lighter in weight, more compact, and easier to maneuver for quick readings. The latest model also comes with a longer-lasting lithium battery and a velcro strap that secures the unit on the user's hand. In addition, the casing is made from a new shockproof, high-strength plastic, making it more sturdy in the field.

Benefits of CASS include quick examination of typical chemical containers (drums, barrels, pipelines, and tanker trucks); the ability to determine content and fill levels without opening containers; the power to distinguish similar from dissimilar container contents; and the detection of hidden compartments and submerged contraband.
