RECENT growth in technology spending by motor carriers is an indication that the economy is improving, according to TMW Systems of Cleveland, Ohio.
The company is a developer and integrator of enterprise management software for the transportation industry, currently serving more than 500 trucking industry clients of all types and sizes. Trucking companies continue to view information systems as a key tool for achieving efficiencies and identifying competitive advantages.

Carriers are broadening their planning horizons and shortening their decision cycle, he said.
Recent news from the US Department of Commerce fortifies TMW's belief that the economy is strong and is leading trucking companies to confidently position themselves for renewed growth, Weisz said. Consumer spending for goods and services rose 0.5% in May for the second month in a row. The National Association of Purchasing Managers' June survey of conditions in the manufacturing sector found activity still declining but at the slowest rate in seven months; and construction spending rose 0.3% in May.
