Carrier Corp, a business unit of United Technologies Corp, has entered into an agreement with Teleflex Inc to be its exclusive distributor of auxiliary power and climate control units (APUs) in the aftermarket.

Carrier's Transicold business unit will provide Teleflex's APU products, renamed the ComfortPro series. Carrier's worldwide dealer network will vastly expand distribution, service, and support for APUs.

Teleflex entered the market in 1990 with an auxiliary heater for Class 8 trucks that became known as the Proheat unit. With the later addition of auxiliary power, the product line provided electricity for sleeper compartment air-conditioning and heating, 4,000 watts of 110/120-volt household current for onboard appliances, 40 amps of battery charging, and engine preheating for cold-weather starts.

Besides the APU, the ComfortPro series includes a multi-function driver control panel, a climate-control unit, and a shore power option that lets truckers plug into a standard 110/120-volt outlet.
