TransCore's Canadian Spot Market Freight Index posted the third straight month of increased freight volume in June. Month-over-month, load volume in the spot market saw a 3% increase, continuing to climb back from the April decline after a record-breaking March.

The Canadian Freight Index also recorded the second highest freight volume of the year, consistent with the North American Freight Index. Year-over-year, June 2011 recorded a 7% increase from June 2010. Second quarter freight rose 14% compared with first quarter 2011 and 10% versus second quarter 2010.

Equipment postings in June recorded the highest level for 2011, with capacity up approximately 2% from May's total; however, capacity continues to remain slightly below 2010 levels. Even with the higher volumes in equipment availability, the equipment-to-loads ratio recorded the lowest number or equipment-to-loads ever measured.
