Two propane bobtails were recovered June 3 near Laredo TX at the Mexican border after they were reported missing from Ferrellgas in San Antonio, according to news reports. No propane appeared to be missing from the trucks, and law enforcement officials said the theft did not appear to be related to terrorism.

Some officials speculated that the trucks might have been stolen for the fuel to be sold in Mexico.

The tank truck industry has been advised by law enforcement agencies to report all missing vehicles because of concerns about terrorist activities and the possibility that a tank truck or tank trailer might be used in an attack in the United States.

The National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) this week notified its members to be on the lookout for the two bobtails. Cliff Harvison, NTTC president, said the information was relayed at the request of the Transportation Security Administration and the American Trucking Association's Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC).
