Thomas H Coyne, National Association of Chemical Distributors immediate past chairman and president of George S Coyne Chemical Co Inc of Croydon PA, was awarded 2004 Distributor of the Year by the NACD. Coyne was singled out for his more than two decades of service to NACD and the industry. He served on several of the association's committees, and during the past six years, moved through the Executive Committee positions of treasurer and vice-chairman, most recently serving as chairman of NACD.

Members of the Petroleum Equipment Institute elected Kirk N Mercer president and Steven Hieber vice-president of the organization during its annual membership meeting in Las Vegas NV. Calvin Bishop was appointed PEI treasurer. Mercer is president of R W Mercer Co, Jackson MI. Hieber is president of PWI Inc, New Oxford PA; Bishop is president of D & H Pump Service Inc, El Paso TX. Seven new district directors have been elected to the PEI board of directors: Jody Porter, sales manager, E O Habhegger Co Inc, Yeadon PA; Bill Morgan, president of Collins Equipment Corp, Cleveland OH; Jerry Tigges, president, Oil Equipment Co, Madison WI; Jeff Leatherman, president of Dallas Pump Services & Supply, Dallas TX; Al Eichorn, vice-president-sales, PMP Corp, Avon CT; Robert Milo, president/chief executive officer, Universal Valve Co Inc, Elizabeth NJ; and Dwight Rutledge, owner of Rutledge & Associates, Channelview TX.

Steven C Quandt, executive vice-president of Columbus Chemical Industries Inc of Columbus WI, has been elected chairman of the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD. Elected as vice-chairman was Peter Y Hess, president of John R Hess & Co Inc of Cranston RI. Bruce H Schechinger, president of BHS Marketing LLC, Salt Lake City UT, was elected NACD treasurer. Laura Dornbusch, president of Expo Chemical Co Inc of Cypress TX, and Tony Infilise, Quadra Chemicals, Vaudreuil-Dorion, Canada, were re-elected as directors at large. Also joining the board were these regional presidents: Western Region, David R Rubenstein, Pacific Diazo Products, Colton CA; Central Region, Roger T Harris, Producers Chemicals Co, Batavia IL; Northeast Region, Douglas A Brown, Brown Chemical Co Inc, Oakland NJ; and Southeast Region, Chip Welch, Industrial Chemicals Inc, Birmingham, AL.

Barry D Michaels, assistant vice-president of premium operations at Union Pacific Railroad Co, was again elected chairman of the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA), while Frank J Sonzala, executive vice-president of Pressure Systems International, was elected IANA's new secretary/treasurer. Tom Shurstad, president and chief executive officer of Pacer Stacktrain, was the sole new director elected.
