The National Petrochemical and Refiners Association recently elected Duane Gilliam, an executive vice-president of Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC, as chairman-elect to replace current chairman of the board Jerry Thompson, a senior vice-president of CITGO Petroleum. Also elected vice-presidents and members of the Executive Committee of the association were Jack Hurst, Occidental Chemical; Joel Maness, Sunoco; and Jim Mahoney, Koch Petroleum. Their terms will be from March 2002 through March 2005. Urvan Sternfels, who has served as president of NPRA for 20 years, announced that he would retire at the end of March 2002.

Neil Shuster has been named president and chief executive officer of the Intelligent Transporation Society of America, a public/private partnership of nearly 700 companies; federal, state, and regional government agencies; academic institutions; and other transportation-related associations. It is a federal advisory committee to the Department of Transportation.

The Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA) has promoted John “Jack” F Murray to vice-president — project management. Murray will continue to head SOCMA's Association Management Center.
