Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Decatur IL, is initiating a US biodiesel feasibility study in conjunction with recent legislation passed in Minnesota to encourage biodiesel production, according to company information.

"As a leading biodiesel producer in the European Union with two facilities in Germany, ADM has already shown a strong commitment to this industry, said Paul Mulhollem, ADM president. "We are strengthening that commitment domestically with the initiation of the biodiesel feasibility study."

The study should be completed within six months and will determine the economic viability of processing soybean oil into a fuel that can be blended with petroleum derived diesel fuel to extend diesel supplies and improve fuel emissions. It will be centered around the Mankato area where ADM has a soybean crushing and vegetable oil refining facility.
