105-million gallon ethanol plant proposed for the Midwest

Global Renewable LLC, a Whitewater WI company, has unveiled plans to construct and operate a $195- million plant that is expected to produce 105-120 million gallons of ethanol a year. The plant, which will be located on a 191-acre site approximately 85 miles northwest of Chicago IL, is expected to be operational in October 2008, and will require approximately 38 million bushels of corn annually.

Global Renewable LLC is a partnership that includes former Wisconsin Governor and Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson, who serves as its chairman. The other partners are Jeffery P Knight, who headed the Governor's Ethanol Coalition under Governor Thompson, businessman Tom Weickardt, and Luiz Carlos Correa Carvalho, general coordinator of the Brazilian Sector Chamber of Sugar and Ethanol Productive Chain, Ministry of Agriculture, where he represents the private sector.
