Broin, DOE to fund cellulosic ethanol plant

Broin Companies, Sioux Falls SD, a dry mill ethanol producer, and the Department of Energy (DOE) have agreed to jointly fund the development of a $200-million cellulosic ethanol plant in Emmetsburg IA.
The project involves the expanions of a conventional corn dry mill facility into a bio-refinery that will include production of cellulosic ethanol from corn cobs. The expansion will take approximately 30 months and is slated to begin as soon as the terms of the agreement with the DOE are finalized.
When the expansion is complete, the facility will produce 125 million gallons per year of ethanol from. In addition, the plant will create 80,000 tons of Dakota Gold Corn Germ Dehydrated and 100,000 tons of Dakota Gold HP produced annually as animal feed co-products.
